Nuevos Amigos Staff
Jim & Tony Kay Schutz (Missionaries, Directors)
Jim & Tony Kay have been married for 30 thirty years. In 2007 they heard a call from God to “get rid of their stuff and be available.” Jim left a 30-year career in operations management. After home-educating their sons, Tony Kay was just beginning a career in IT management and looking forward to being grandma; she has a degree in Non-profit Business Management.
Their story is one of learning immediate obedience and growing faith. They oversee two projects, Nuevos Amigos in Ecuador and Esperanza de Ana in Peru. Tony Kay & Jim focus on discipling the staff at both projects, strengthening families, and transforming the lives of children. They live on-site at the project in Perú.
Ricardo Maila (Administrator)
Ricardo and his wife Maria have been married for 25 years. They have four sons. Ricardo helped to found Nuevos Amigos and has served in various roles in the foundation. He is currently on the board of directors and is the Administrator for the foundation and the school. His has a passion for the people of the community and the heart of a pastor. His love for the children he serves is a light of Christ. In his free time he likes to play soccer. He is anxiously awaiting becoming a grandfather.
Bella Coba (School Principal)
Bella is a single mom and grandma of a precious girl. She met the Lord as a little girl. Her father taught all his children that the best way to know the Father is by reading the Bible. She has been teaching for over twenty years and has been with Nuevos Amigos since 2008. Currently, she is serving as Principal at the school and sees herself as mother of the little angels at Nuevos Amigos. She likes to read and take walks. Her dream is to travel to the US.
Patti Estrella (Clinical Psychologist)
Patti is the newest member of the leadership team. She is a clinical psychologist and is finishing her thesis on the social problems in the community where Nuevos Amigos is located. She loves doing game therapy with the children and is a huge support to the teachers in finding the best ways to support each child. Her personal dream is to have her own foundation. She likes to read and run. She lives in Quito with her family.
Lorena Carrera (Teacher)
Lorena is new at NA. She studied at ESPE University. She teaches english to the upper grades and desires to see her students become good english speakers. Her favorite thing about working with NA is being with the children. In her free time she likes to spend time with her mom. She lives in Quito with her family.
Sarita Cevallos (Teacher)
Sarita has been serving at NA since 2008. She is currently teaching primera de basica (kindergarten). She studied at Institution “Cordillera”. She loves teaching her children and desires that they all become christians. She likes to watch movies and sing. Her personal dream is to have a early childhood education center. She lives with her husband and they are expecting their first child soon.
Martha Coba (Teacher)
Martha has been teaching for over 15 years. She has been with Nuevos Amigos since 2008 and is currently teaching the cuarto de basica (3rd grade). In addition to her teaching degree she holds a degree in social work. In her free time she likes to watch world news. Her dream is for each child to have the Lord in their heart. She lives with her son, sister, and dog.
Jhoanna Jácome (Teacher)
Jhoanna has been teaching for over eight years. She has been with NA since 2011 and is currently teaching sexto de basica (5th grade). She studied at the Central University of Ecuador. Her favorite thing about working at NA is the team collaboration among the staff. She hopes to continue studying herself; and wants to see all the children become professionals.
Germania López (Teacher)
Germania has been teaching for over 20 years. She has been with Nuevos Amigos since 2009 and is currently teaching quinto de basica (4th grade). She is passionate about the school and its distinction in truly loving the children who are served. She loves to dance, bike, and read. Her desire is for Jesus to be always in her heart. She lives in Quito with her husband and two children.
Lourdes Ortiz (Teacher)
Lourdes has been with NA since 2011. She teaches computer classes to all grades and coordinates the sponsorship program. She studied accounting at “Simon Bolivar”. Her favorite thing about working at NA is the innocent children. She hopes to see them all become responsible, well-educated adults. She loves to spend time at home with her family and her desire is to see them all have eternal life. She lives in the community.
Jhoanna Vásquez (Teacher)
Jhoanna has been at NA since 2011. She is teaching tercero de basica (2nd grade). She studied at Central University of Ecuador. Her favorite thing about working at NA is the collaboration of the staff. She likes to take photos and ride her bicycle. Her personal dream is to build her own school. She lives in Quito with her mother and brothers.
Maria Vasquez (Maintenance)
Maria has been working at NA since 2010. She is the oldest of three children; and now has her own two sons who attend the school. She is responsible for keeping the school clean and is always available to help in any way. She loves the friendships she has at Nuevos Amigos and desires for all the children to be christians and know the word of God. In her free time she likes to crochet, listen to music, and go to the park. Her personal dream is to have land to build a home and to see her sons become professionals.
Valeria Karina (Teacher)
Valeria is new at the school this year. She teaches English in the younger grades. She studied at Escuela Politécnica del Ejército and is waiting to receive her certification in English Proficiency. Her favorite thing about working with Nuevos Amigos are “her kids.” Her desire is to see them become professionals. In her free time, she likes to learn other languages. Her personal dream is to become a flight attendant. She lives in Quito with her parents and brother.
Marcelo Marinez (Teacher)
Marcelo has been teaching music for 5 years at the school. He studied at Universidad Central del Ecuador and he received his license as a Music Teacher. His favorite thing about working with Nuevos Amigos is forming musical groups with the kids. His desire is to see his students become artists. In his free time he likes to watch soccer games. His personal dream is to be a well known musician. He lives in Quito.
Jhon Coral (Teacher)
John has been teaching for 3 years and is new at the school this year. He studied at Universidad Central del Ecuador and he is waiting to receive his certification as a PE Trainer. His favorite thing about working with Nuevos Amigos is discovering the talents of the children. His desire is to see his students become healthy adults. In his free time he likes to play soccer. His personal dream is to become a DT for a European soccer team. He lives south of Quito with his parents.
